The MKH 416 P 48U3 is a directional studio microphone with a high directivity factor. This is highly desirable in the film and TV studio and also outdoors for multiple applications. The microphone employs the proven RF-principle. It is designed for phantom powering with 48 V. The MKH 416 P 48U3 represents a combination of a pressure gradient transducer and an interference microphone.

The directional characteristics is supercardiold at low and medium frequencies, however at higher frequencies the directional pattern is clubshaped. The microphone's susceptibility to wind and pop noises is low due to the working pnnciple employed. Therefore the MKH 416 P 48U3 can often be employed as a microphone for soloists or for commentary purposes without using an additional popshleld. However, when being employed outdoors, the use of a windshield is recommended. The frequency response is intended to have a slight increase of the high frequencies. The so called close talking effect is low with thiS microphone. Therefore, the MKH 416 P 48U3 gives a well balanced sound even when it is used close up.

The microphone does not contain any transformer and is therefore unaffected by stray magnetic fields.
